Granby festival would offer something for everyone

To the Editor:

At East Grand Middle School we are starting a new festival that we hope will continue for many years. We propose that we begin The Most Excellent Pine Beetle Adventure and it will also feature Granby Earth Day. This adventure would have many different vendors and activities for the young and old.

This festival is to raise awareness for the plague ravaging our beautiful Colorado hills. This festival will include…

• Flag football

• Pine Beetle Recipe and Costume Contests

• Pine Beetle melodrama

• Free outside movie (on outside gymnasium wall at the middle school)

• Burning of three trees

• Skate contest

• And more

Near sundown there will be a tree burning and people can hang good or bad mementos on the trees if they wish. There will be Chinese take-out boxes or colorful envelopes that can be hung on the tree. Then when the sun is finally down the fire department will light the trees on fire.

Once the three trees are done there will be a movie playing outside on the gymnasium wall of the middle school. If the weather is bad the movie will still be played in the gym.

The students of the eighth grade at East Grand Middle School are putting in every inch of energy into this free festival. This event will take place on Saturday, May 22, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

We would appreciate any input from parents to volunteers, restaurants, stores and other businesses. It would help us out a lot. For the businesses they can set up a booth with any of their merchandise or food products to sell. If a business or restaurant would like to set up a booth please call Abby Loberg at the middle school at 970-887-3382. Thank You.
