Granby firemen are dedicated to public welfare and deserve amenities
December 5, 2007
To the Editor:
The negative comments about our new fire station prompt me to make some comments of my own.
I would suspect the complainers have no idea how dedicated our Fire Department is to our welfare. The firemen do not receive salaries. They are volunteering to save our homes, rescue us from auto accidents and to put their lives on the line whenever needed.
When that pager goes off, regardless of time of night, of degrees of temperature, that call becomes their priority above anything else.
There was a fire on Sunset Point three years ago in December. The temperature was 35 degrees below zero, it was the 3 a.m. in the morning. Two houses burned but through skill, dedication and raw courage, the rest of the homes on the point were saved.
My message to all of you is to be so very grateful to our Volunteer Fire Department.
Don’t criticize them; thank them for being here for you, congratulate them for the wonderful job they do for us. They richly deserve any amenities.
