Granby fireworks, cancelled because of high winds, will not be rescheduled

Sky-Hi staff report

A decision was reached just before dark on Wednesday to cancel the fireworks display in Granby due to high winds.

There was some discussion Wednesday to reschedule the fireworks for Thursday evening, but due to a lack of resources to ensure the display’s safety, the fireworks will not be rescheduled, officials with the Flying Hills Rodeo Arena have confirmed.

The fireworks, a staple of the Independence Day celebration at Flying Hills Rodeo Arena just south of downtown Granby, were going to be one of only two major fireworks displays in Grand County on the Fourth not cancelled despite the continuing stage 2 fire ban for the county.

The fireworks are planned to return next year.
