Granby officials consider options for in-town RV ‘camping’
Grand County. CO Colorado
GRANBY – Town officials are looking at ways to accommodate overnight RV parking in town. Under consideration are possible town policies that would continue to allow RV parking at commercial parking lots for a limited time, occupied RV parking at residential homes for a limited time, or designation of town lots where RVs could be parked temporarily.
One possibility town board members discussed at an Aug. 10 meeting was making a portion of Kaibab Park into a town-owned RV park as an enterprise with contracted management.
Granby Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sharon Brenner said that oftentimes visitors are looking for single-night camping in town, and the chamber’s only option is to refer visitors to the Three Lakes area north of Granby, or to the YMCA Snow Mountain Ranch south of Granby. Another challenge, Brenner said, is that presently there is no convenient RV dump station in town.
In brainstorming, trustees said Kaibab Park would be an appropriate location for an RV park due to its infrastructure of sewer and water already in place and its location by the Fraser River.
The goal, said Town Trustee Ken Coatney, would not be to create a “cash cow” for the town, but to simply provide an “appropriate venue for our visitors.”
