Granby police arrest Grand Lake man who stayed in Country Ace Hardware after closing

On Wednesday night, April 16, the Granby Police Department arrested a male suspect inside the Country Ace Hardware when he lingered in the store after closing.

The police department stated in a news release that officers arrived at the Granby store at approximately 8:50 p.m. after the suspect set off an alarm. The store closes at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.

“As officers announced their presence and started to search the building, an individual emerged from within the business and was taken into custody without incident,” the police department stated in the release.



Deputies from the Grand County Sheriff’s Office assisted in this arrest. The officials determined that the suspect had “ingested narcotics and remained inside of the business after it was closed, damaging or taking various retail property while in the business,” according to the release.

The suspect has been identified as a 27-year-old from Grand Lake. He was transported to the Grand County jail in Hot Sulphur Springs. His offenses include the following: criminal trespass in the second degree, criminal mischief (amounting between $300-$999) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
