Granby rec center would serve more taxpayers

To the Editor:

This is an open letter to all Fraser Valley Metropolitan Recreation District voters:

I have seen several ads and letters recently promoting the proposed Fraser Valley Rec. Center/Golf Course bond issue. I also know that you have already received your ballots in the mail.

Before voting, I would urge you to consider a few things. First of all, there was a very convincing proposal made by the 8th-graders last year to build a recreation center in Granby. As with Fraser, the land will already be donated. As with Fraser, there will be kids nearby who want to bike to the facility.

However, the Granby proposal would also be much more convenient to many residents in the county, especially those who live in Grand Lake, Granby, Hot Sulphur Springs and even the Winter Park Highlands.

If you truly want to see a comparison of ideas, with good research, a lower price tag that would truly benefit the locals of Grand County (not just the tourists), then log onto the Web site and view the entire proposal that the students presented last spring.

It is a truly viable option that would cost more taxpayers fewer of their hard earned dollars over the long run. It is definitely worth considering.
