Granby to reopen Town Manager search

The Town of Granby’s search for a new Town Manager continues. Town officials plan to reopen the application submission process later in Nov. and hope to begin reviewing a new slate of candidates later this year.

The Town’s search for a new Town Manager has been in process since the end of previous Town Manager Wally Baird’s tenure with the municipal government, which ended in mid-July this year. Granby put out notification of a job opening shortly thereafter and received 43 applicants that were in turn narrowed down to a short list of six.

Last week officials from the Town of Granby brought three out of those six finalist candidates for the position of Town Manager to Granby for a “Meet the Candidates” forum on Thursday Oct. 27. The Granby Board of Trustees hosted the forum. Scheduling conflicts prevented three of the six finalist candidates from attending the event.

Granby Mayor Paul Chavoustie explained the Granby Board did not reach a consensus on who the right person for the position would be and as such decided to reopen the application process. “They all had positive attributes,” Chavoustie said. “But we decided to continue the search.”

Chavoustie said the Town’s employees and the Board of Trustees are currently focused on completing the 2017 budget for the Town but he expects the official application process to reopen sometime around the second week of Nov. “We will have it open for a couple weeks in November to accept applications,” Chavoustie said. He added he anticipates a new Town Manager starting sometime around the first of the new year.

Chavoustie said the three short list applicants who were not able to attend the forum last week will remain in consideration going forward. The starting salary for Granby’s Town Manager varies somewhat based on the previous experience of the candidate but is within a range from roughly $90,000 to $110,000.
