Grand County: 30 Million More Items @ Your Library
June 15, 2011
Grand County Library District card holders now have over 30 million more items available to them through the Prospector Regional Union Catalog. The Marmot Library Network, of which Grand County Library District is a member, signed an agreement last fall allowing Marmot to join Prospector’s 26 public, academic and special libraries. The 3 million items formally available to Grand County residents through Marmot have been substantially increased not only in numbers but in the variety of materials. This means Grand County Library card holders have access to a wide range of materials formally available only through inter-library loan. These items can now be requested directly through the Prospector Catalog and picked up at your local branch library. Loans between Marmot and Prospector libraries-across the Continental Divide-are expected to increase substantially. The statewide courier service, operated by the Colorado Library Consortium (CLiC), will deliver these materials directly to your local libraries up to five days a week. This project is substantially funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) through a Library Services & Technology Act (LSTA) allocation to the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) and the Colorado State Library (CSL). This is the largest LSTA 2010 grant in Colorado, reminiscent of the Rural Electrification Administration (REA) because of its direct benefits for rural and remote areas. For more information on Prospector contact any of our five Grand County Branch Libraries or visit our website at http://www.gcld.org.
