Grand County officials announced the adoption of a new emergency response system at the Winter Park Town Council meeting Dec. 3.

The new system, Genasys Protect, will address challenges faced in previous emergencies, including the East Troublesome Fire.

The system’s public information mapping will provide Grand County with real-time updates on fire severity and location as well as traffic and road closures during an emergency, according to County Director of Emergency Management Alexis Kimbrough, who presented the update.

Residents will be able to access the information via the Genasys Protect’s mobile app as well as online, Kimbrough said.

County fire departments have been training with the new system, including at Granby’s Fourth of July parade. The system has also been adopted in neighboring counties — including Boulder, Summit and Eagle — which will increase consistency in emergency responses across county lines, Kimbrough said.

Kimbrough encouraged Grand County residents to make note of their evacuation zone number by visiting the system’s website, GenasysProtect.com.

In other business, the town set intentions to renew its contract with Excel Energy until 2026.
