On Thursday afternoon, the Grand County Board of County Commissioners announced a resolution declaring a local disaster emergency due to the fire. As of Thursday after, the fire along U.S. Highway 40 between Granby and Hot Sulphur Springs had burned 30 acres and five cabins, and was 40% contained.

“This is an important first step in the emergency management process, and puts Grand County in a better position for recovering funds related to the Windy Gap Fire and its impacts,” the commissioners stated on the Grand County Colorado Facebook page.
