Grand County Junior All Stars are runner-up state champions
The Grand County Junior All Stars baseball team placed second in the state championships in Rifle this week.
In Wednesday’s game against Colorado Springs, the All Stars lost 12-2, ending the season for Grand County’s little-league players.
“They were pretty disappointed at first, but then we started talking about what they’d achieved this year,” said coach James Newberry.
“They represented Grand County well.”
The All Stars experienced a setback when starting pitcher Ty Franek sustained an arm strain near the start of the game, Newberry said, causing the player to have to sit out the game.
