Grand County mourns passing of Granby Trustee Paul Robertson
Grand County’s first responder community and Granby town government are in mourning this weekend after the passing of local citizen and civic volunteer Paul Robertson.
Robertson passed away at approximately 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 2, at St. Joseph Hospital in Denver while surrounded by his wife and other family members. Robertson was admitted to St. Joseph two weeks ago for emergency surgery to address complications related to gastric cancer.
Robertson, who was originally from St. Paul Minn., moved to Grand County eight years ago by way of Indianapolis Indiana. He was a notable figure in the local community serving as both a Granby Town Trustee and as Field Director for the all-volunteer organization Grand County Search and Rescue.
As the Search and Rescue crew processes the passing of one of the leading members of the organization longtime Search and Rescue Public Information Officer Greg Foley offered words of solace.
“Paul Robertson will be sorely missed by all his teammates at Grand County Search and Rescue,” Foley stated Sunday afternoon. “Over the last eight years his leadership and dedication have been an inspiration to us all. Paul was extremely proud of his volunteerism and expressed his thanks to the team for the opportunity to give back to the community during his last days. We are thankful that Paul was with us.”
Likewise Granby’s Mayor Paul Chavoustie commented on the passing of Robertson.
“Paul Robertson served our community faithfully, as a Town Trustee and with Search and Rescue,” Chavoustie stated. “He had the incredible gift of helping gain clarity in complex situations. He was a giver, who gave of his time for the betterment of the community in more ways than can be counted. He will be greatly missed by all of us who were blessed to know him.”
Late last week as the Robertson family prepared for Paul’s impending passing they released a statement to the community through a family friend.
“The incredible outpouring of love, prayers and support from all facets of the community have given Paul and his family the strength to endure this sad and most difficult time,” read a statement from the Robertson family.
