Grand County needs to answer more questions about transfer station

To the Editor:

I enjoyed your editorial about the transfer station. A couple of additional questions that need answering are:

– What are the plans for construction debris? Transfer stations do not generally accept this material.

– What portion of the tipping fee will be retained by the county once the transfer station is in operation?

– Will the County portion of these fees plus existing reserve funds from the current landfill operations cover the closure and post-closure costs of the two landfills and the new transfer station? These costs can easily exceed $5 million.

– I am assuming the current landfill operation will remain in place while the county goes through the approval process with the state, a process that can be up to 2 years and sometimes longer.
