Grand County Rotary Golf Classic helps battle polio
The Winter Park Fraser Valley and Granby Rotary Clubs are joining together to sponsor the third annual Rotary Golf Classic to benefit Rotary International’s and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s project to eradicate polio. Rotary has been a driving force in the effort to eradicate polio since 1985. Although the United States has been rid of this crippling disease for many years, four countries still report a significant number of new polio cases each year: India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria. In today’s mobile world, polio is only a plane ride away. Only total eradication will eliminate this risk. In what is hoped to be one final push, Rotary is again stepping up to the plate. It has committed to match a $255 million grant from the Gates Foundation. Together these two organizations hope to eliminate polio once and for all. All profits from the Rotary Golf Classic tournament will go towards this project. This year we will offer an event sponsorship for $500. Hole sponsorships will be available for $100. There will be the usual mulligan package available for $20 per player. Prizes will be awarded for first and second place in men’s and women’s flights. There will also be prizes for longest drive and closest to the pin for both men and women.Silent auction items also will be available. Registration forms can be obtained by calling Mark Lund at Grand Mountain Bank (970-887-1221) or Jan Knisley at Edward Jones (970-887-8983).
