Grand County students accepted to EAA Air Academy
The Experimental Aircraft Association announced that the following students were accepted to this summer’s Air Academy camps: Bowen Gray, Liam Fuqua, Andre Law and Alex Law from Granby, as well as Holly Tehan, Grace Knight and Taber Miyauchi from Grand Lake.
The EAA Air Academy offers young people the opportunity to meet and work with aviation professionals while learning the arts, sciences and lore of aviation. The program uses group activities and counselor relationships to present the material in a “science camp” format that is a unique combination of fun and discovery. Pride of craftsmanship, development of people skills and leadership potential combine to broaden students’ understanding of the world of aviation and themselves. In addition to classroom and workshop settings, the participants will be able to experience the thrill of both airplane and helicopter flight.
Participants in the Academy range from 12 to 18 years old, and come from all over the United States as well as numerous foreign countries.
Grand County students are sponsored by our local Middle Park EAA Chapter 1267. Funds for these scholarships are raised primarily through donations and proceeds derived from the annual EAA Pancake Breakfast and Fly-in, which includes a silent auction supported by donations from local businesses. This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, July 6, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m, at the Granby airport. Normally, over 40 aircraft may be expected to fly in from all over the state of Colorado
