A vehicle is visible in the trees as Grand County response teams attended the scene of an accident on Berthoud Pass Sunday afternoon, Feb. 27. A vehicle eastbound on U.S. Highway 40 appeared to have over-corrected after passing another car past the second switchback and rolled off roughly 150 feet down a steep embankment near Zero Creek.

East Grand firefighters set up a rope and pulley system to pull a 7-year-old boy up on a backboard up the hill. He was then transferred to East Grand Community Clinic, according the Sheriff Rod Johnson. The driver walked away from the scene of the accident. Both were wearing seat belts and the child was in a car seat, according to East Grand Fire Lieutenant Adam Gosey who was at the scene of the accident.

Grand County Search and Rescue also assisted with the rescue.
