Grand County’s medical care a tribute to its people
August 26, 2008
To the Editor:
I would like to express my most sincere thanks and compliments to the men and women of the Grand County Emergency Medical Services who responded to our recent call from the Rapids Lodge in Grand Lake.
While preparing to go to a wedding reception my wife Sarah suddenly began to bleed heavily from both nostrils for no apparent reason. My attempts to stop the bleeding merely slowed it and I called 9-1-1. The paramedics were there in minutes and under their skillful ministrations the blood flow was finally stopped.
Because of Sarah’s dangerously high blood pressure the decision was made to take her to the Granby emergency clinic. There, we were likewise impressed with the care and professionalism of the staff under the guidance of Dr. Justin Smiley. They not only stabilized Sarah’s vital signs but, on learning that we had missed dinner, even treated us to cookies and soft drinks.
In a final act of kindness, while we were wondering how we would get back to Grand Lake, along came officer John, a sheriff’s deputy who gave us to a ride back to the lodge.
The compassion and care we received during our regrettably brief visit is a tribute to the kindness and warmth of the people of Grand County.
