Grand Dog candidate: Hope
Grand Dog is a collaborative fundraiser for Advocates for a Violence-Free Community and Grand County Pet Pals to raise awareness that violence affects everyone in the home- adults, children, and pets. Every week we will be highlighting a different “candidate”. To see all of the candidates and vote for your favorite, please visit gcadvocates.org.
Hi, my name is Hope Moseley-Torello. I was born in January of 2005, I think. My life was really tough through September 2005 / Hurricane Katrina. My Mom rescued me from Hattiesburg, Mich. when she found me after Katrina. I had been “owner surrendered” to the local shelter, and starving. Before the Hurricane the “owners” barely fed me and were most likely going to use me as “bait” for dog fighting. So the Hurricane and my Mom actually saved me from a short horrible life.
Then the sweet life began. I learned from my big brother Cody (who recently went over the rainbow bridge), how to use the dog door, showed me around the house and yard. I was his shadow for years. He taught me to be more confident and how to run free at Mom’s work – lucky me – a pet resort with an acre of green grass to play in! After six months, I could finally sleep when I wasn’t right next to my Mom’s heartbeat- but still on the bed with my brother!
Over the years I eventually felt confident enough to explore things on my own, like the dock I crawled under in the Florida Keys. I was stuck and afraid until my Mom taught me how to swim. I LOVED it! Then they couldn’t get me out of the water! I explored the whole neighborhood by swimming in the canal.
The next fun adventure in my life began in 2011 when we moved here, to Grand County. I love running in the snow and playing with snowballs! In the summer I get to swim in the lake and play on the Islands of Lake Granby. I have to wear a life jacket because the water is dark and cold but I’m now 11 1/2, almost 80 in people years, so the jacket also gives me support and confidence. All year round I get to swim in WARM WATER cause now my Mom’s business is swimming doggies in a big swim spa @ K9 Bliss!
I may not have lived in Grand County my whole life, but I am a Grand County Dog through and through now and I can prove it! Elect me for Grand Dog and I will make you proud.
Love and sweet puppy kisses, Hope
