Grand Futures Oktoberfest Fun Run draws a crowd

Nearly 30 regional participants were on hand Saturday, Sept. 22, for competition, prizes, fun and camaraderie at the inaugural Grand Futures Prevention Coalition Fun Run/Walk.

Three categories were designated with the overall winner coming out of the kids category. Ty Scholl completed the scenic course on County Road 57 in 17 minutes, 54 seconds.

The men’s winner was Shawn Scholl at 19 minutes, 50 seconds and the women’s category was topped by Janel Jordy at 24 minutes, 33 seconds.

The race was the debut of Grand Futures Prevention sponsorship of the race and also the debut of the new GFPC Grand County Director, Katie Gibson.

“I am so excited to be a part of such an important organization in our community,” Katie said. “The GFPC Grand County Advisory Board was extremely instrumental in kick starting the process for GFPC to sponsor the race and did an incredible amount of work in a very short time. The weather was wonderful and the scenery spectacular at this time of year in Grand County. The community really stepped up and helped make this event a success.”
