Grand Lake man gets 6 years to life in sex assault

On Aug. 31, District Judge Mary Hoak sentenced Emmanuel Robles, 29, of Grand Lake to a sentence of 6 years to life in the Department of Corrections for his conviction on Sexual Assault-Victim Incapable of Appraising the Nature of Conduct and a concurrent six years in prison for the Burglary of a Dwelling, according to the 14th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

The sentence is “to life” because the Colorado Department of Corrections may continue to incarcerate Robles for the remainder of his natural life unless officials determine that he has successfully progressed in sex offender treatment, and that he would not pose an undue threat to the community if released.

“We are pleased with the sentence in this case,” District Attorney Brett Barkey said. “The facts of this case called for the imprisonment of the defendant to ensure the safety of the community and to provide justice for the victim in this case and in Mr. Robles’ prior California case.”

Barkey credited Chief Deputy District Attorney Heather Stein, Deputy District Attorney Ashley Shelton, and Investigator Leo Piechocki with “an outstanding job advocating for our victims.”
