Grand Lake sailor Matthew Shankle passes away

Matthew Shankle, 51, of Greenwood Village passed away on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, with his family at his side.

He is survived by his loving wife Carla Gene (Schneider); beloved children Alexandra, Gene, Holly, and Kelsey; as well as brothers Steven, Joe, and Zach; sisters Kathy, Missy, and Lisa; brother-in-law Mark (Candice); sister-in-law Tina (Jay); six nieces; seven nephews; and many good friends.

He was the fourth of eight children and was preceded in death by his parents Donald Winsor and Mary Patricia, and his brother Jeff. Matt was a graduate of Oceanside, Calif., High School where he was a standout member of the football team. He was a life-long certified diver and a passionate sailor. He was an advisory board member for the Special Service Advisory Committee as well as the chair of Educational Technology Advisory Committee for the Littleton Public School District.

A vigil will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, and a Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, both at All Soul’s Catholic Church, 4950 S. Logan Street, Englewood.
