Grand Lake " Speak up about chemicals while you’re still able
July 22, 2008
To the Editor:
They sprayed the dandelions with 2/4-D and I didn’t complain because I didn’t know much about 2/ 4-D.
Then they sprayed the lodgepole pines and all the food crops with carbaryl and permethrin, and I didn’t speak up because I didn’t know much about carbaryl and permethrin.
Then they aerial sprayed for mosquitoes with malathion and I didn’t speak up because I didn’t know much about malathion.
Then they covered all the town’s wooden bridges and gazebos with pentachlorophenol and I didn’t speak up because I didn’t know much about pentachlorophenol.
Then all these pesticides and chemicals combined synergistically and I didn’t speak up because I didn’t know about chemicals combining.
Then I got non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and I didn’t speak up because my throat was too inflamed from swollen lymph nodes and radiation.
Speak up while you have a voice. Ignorance is not bliss.
Call Grand Lake Town Hall (970) 627-3435 and tell them enough is enough.
Choose healthy alternatives to chemicals. Protect the Colorado River, our drinking water and our health.
Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma may be substituted with leukemia, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, asthma, kidney and liver diseases, skin diseases and other neurological diseases ” and the scenario is the same. All have been associated with pesticide exposure. (See http://www.kidsforsavingearth.org/mnchec/articles/pesticides.htm and http://database.healthandenvironment.org/index.cfm.)
