Grand Lake woman killed in ATV wreck

A woman from Grand Lake died Monday afternoon when the all-terrain vehicle she was riding went off a trail near Idleglen, according to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office.

Brenna Lis, 26, was following her boyfriend and brother, who were in another off-highway vehicle, on a trail by County Road 4 near the Bull Mountain trailhead around 2 p.m. Monday, said Lt. Dan Mayer, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.

The ATV Lis was riding veered off the trail and went about 160 feet down an embankment into the woods before hitting a tree, Mayer said. Lis was found dead at the scene. The Grand County Coroner’s Office has not yet released a cause of death.

It is still unclear what caused the ATV to go off trail, Mayer said. Police are investigating the incident, though no criminal activity is suspected. Mayer added that there was no evidence of impairment.

Grand County Search and Rescue, the Grand Lake Fire Department and Grand County EMS assisted at the scene.
