Grand Park would restore ski-jumping to Fraser Valley

To the Editor:

This letter is in support of Clark Lipscomb and his plan to develop a new “winter park” in Fraser.

Mr. Lipscomb’s Grand Park development includes plans for ski-jumping and cross country skiing programs to occur in the open space, and plans for additional tubing capacity on the hillside that will lend financial support for the other programs.

Our organization, the Winter Park Sports Foundation, is committed to assisting Clark make the beginner ski-jumping facility a success. We have committed to providing professional coaching at the facility and to organizing a community program that will feed Steamboat Springs’ Olympic-caliber training facility.

As a two-time Olympic ski-jumper (who learned to jump at Winter Park), I am excited to see ski-jumping return to Grand County, and I want to provide Grand County youth an opportunity to represent Fraser and see the world.

I support Grand Park’s vision, and I encourage the Grand County commissioners and the Fraser town trustees to support his desire to bring these recreational opportunities to the community.
