Growing up in Grand County: The almost perfect life
February 26, 2008
This hidden paradise has its own magic to it. I have seen my share of people coming and going, but somehow they always find their was back to the G.C. The icebox of the nation, cold and dry, windy and snowpacked all the time, is somehow appealing. We have five seasons here. Summer, mud-season, almost winter, winter, and post-winter winter. The weather is constantly changing, so if you don’t like it, wait five minutes.
It’s basically the “almost perfect life”. I live 10minutes from one of the top-rated ski resorts, we go to school four days a week, there are beautiful views everywhere, clean air, natural and beautiful water, and the most down-to-earth people you will ever meet. These people and this place made me into, well, me and I love who I have grown to be here. There is not really that much to do here for kids and teens. Yet, we have gotten used to it and have learned how to make our own fun.
I have seen many upon many amazing things while living here, from insanely sweet sunsets and gnarly wrecks on the mountain. I have realized how lucky we all are to live in such a beautiful, safe, laid-back community. It has it’s ups and downs, just like every place, but the good blows the bad out of the water. I don’t know if many people realize how lucky we are to live here, but it’s hard to convince them when the uniqueness is completely indescribable.
