Headwaters Trails Alliance: Appreciation
On Friday, Dec. 30, more than 130 athletes headed out to the Nordic Center at the YMCA to participate in the 12.5 mile ski trek from Snow Mountain Ranch to the Town of Hot Sulphur Springs in celebration of the Grand Winter Sports Carnival. We continue to receive comments about what an amazing event this was and we want to thank those that made it all come together. Grand Nordic’s Diana Lynn Rau made the entire event possible with her local backcountry knowledge, and she and husband Charlie laid out and groomed the majority of the course route and organized the aid stations. YMCA’s Nordic Center, and notably Tom Merkt, not only groomed and signed the first part of the trek, but hosted us for our check-in station. The land owners who so graciously allowed us to route the course through their property are to be commended. We greatly appreciate the donation of shuttle services provided by Mike Fudge of First Transit. City Market and Alco generously donated items for the aid stations. Thanks to Abbi Wittman for running the check-in station, Ed Moyer for his invaluable help and to Louise & Graham Powers for running the aid station at the Cottonwood Pass junction. Dave Batura and Grand County Search and Rescue ….thank you so much for always being around to keep us safe. Big thanks go to McConnell Printing for donating flyers for the event. And our heartfelt thanks to Grand County Historical Association for organizing the Grand Winter Sports Carnival. We hope everyone enjoys the remaining events of the 100 year anniversary winter carnival.Headwaters Trails Alliance
