UPDATE: Highway 40 near Parshall reopens after deadly crash
1:50 p.m.: U.S. Highway 40 has reopened as of 1:20 p.m. with alternating one-way traffic while Colorado State Patrol continues to investigate the crash. Motorists are encouraged to be patient, drive cautiously and be vigilant for any bicyclists in the area.
Charles Marsh, the CDOT regional communications manager for Grand County, said that while the highway is open, drivers should still expect delays.
Colorado State Patrol sergeant and public information officer Ivan Alvarado said that the crash involved a bicyclist and vehicle. Alvarado confirmed that the male bicyclist died in the crash and the driver is being cooperative in the investigation.
Original story: The stretch of U.S. Highway 40 between Parshall and Kremmling is currently closed due to a crash, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. Detours are in place.
Westbound traffic is being redirected to County Road 3, while eastbound traffic is being told to use Colorado Highway 9 at Kremmling, according to COTrip.org.
Highway 40 is closed due to the crash between Ice Plant Road and Williams Fork Dam, from mile point 184 to mile point 197, according to CoTrip.org.
The Hot Sulphur Springs/Parshall Fire Protection District stated on social media that the crash resulted in a fatality and advised motorists to avoid the area until further notice.
There is no estimated time of reopening.
