Colorado’s Division of Motor Vehicles has launched the Historic Colorado Contest, which will accept designs of license plates to commemorate Colorado’s 150th anniversary in 2026. Submissions opened Sept. 19 and will close Nov. 30.

Anyone who lives or studies in the Centennial State can enter the contest, which has two divisions: under 13 years old and 13 and older. A committee will select up to 10 finalists per division, after which the public will vote on the top three from each division.

The terms and conditions read that one or two winners could be selected, and if there are two, then both winners will receive a special commemorative license plate and a $1,000 grant. The contest is free to enter, and participants can learn more and submit their designs at DMV.Colorado.gov/historiccolorado

The public will be able to purchase the final license plate from Aug. 1, 2023, to Aug. 1, 2027.
