Honoring our veterans is more than holding rallies, waving the flag

As the daughter of a WWII veteran and the sister of a VietNam veteran, I am encouraged to see all the honor expressed recently for our veterans in the Sky-Hi Daily News.

Honoring our veterans is more than holding rallies, waving the flag and having magnetic car ribbons. It includes giving them support while on duty and when they get home. It means helping them keep their jobs and their homes and providing them with adequate health care. If you truly honor our veterans, check the voting records of the presidential candidates on veterans issues before you vote Nov. 4.

I acquired my information at http://www.votesmart.org , a non-partisan factual website. On the website, you first enter the senator’s name. When you get to their page, you click on the voting record on the right side menu. The next screen has a drop down menu with 44 categories. To my dismay I found that John McCain did not vote yes for any of the six veterans bills.

Of all people, I thought he would “support our troops”. His votes do not back his words.
