Hospital and special district election results are in with clear winners and one potential tie

New member appointed to East Grand school board

Editor’s note: This story has been updated to correct the preliminary winners of the Columbine Lake Water District election.

On May 6, residents from around Grand County voted in a variety of local elections, primarily for special district leaders and the Kremmling Memorial Hospital District board of directors. Preliminary vote totals were announced in several races on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Results will be certified after a required one to two week waiting period to receive any absentee ballots, and account for possible eligibility or processing issues.

Here are the preliminary results:

Kremmling Memorial Hospital District board of directors

Candidates for 4-year term
Michael Ritschard – 125
Dawna Heller – 110
Jennifer Harvey – 71
David Buckley – 67
William Clark – 52

If results stand, Ritschard and Heller would start their second terms at the next board meeting on May 29. Harvey will serve her first term, in a seat opened by the departure of Board President Jodi Dechoff.

The seats held by current board members Chris Murphy and Kimberly Cameron aren’t open for two more years. These results were provided by Tiffany Freitag, director of business development for Middle Park Health.

Columbine Lake Water District board of directors

Candidates for 4-year term
Janna Sampson – 36
Paul A Johnson – 35
Geoff Garner – 28
Michael Golden – 26
Sharon A.S. Illsley – 23

Candidates for 2-year term
Scott John Walter – 28
Ken Lund – 27

If these result stand Sampson, Johnson and Garner would take the open 4-year terms. Walter would edge out Lund for a 2-year term. The new board will make an appointment as soon as possible to fill a vacancy in the fifth seat left by the late Phillip Goes.

Grand Lake Metro Recreation District board of directors

Candidates for 4-year term
Sarah Sjobakken – 454
James A. Warner – 354
Matthew Reed Tolonen – 350
Katy Nolan – 263
Dwight (Ike) Hull – 214
Chad Farneti – 113
Michael Eugene Somma – 111

Candidates for 2-year term
Jerry Richardson – 494

If these results stand, Sjobakken, Warner, Tolonen and Richardson would join the next board with presiding president, Dan Knox.

Three Lakes Water & Sanitation District board of directors

Candidates for 4-year term
Jeannie Wilkinson – 59
Scott John Walter – 56
Stephanie Conners – 56
Janna Sampson – 50

At this point, Wilkinson would take the open seat vacated by Matthew Reed, but Conners’ bid for re-election stands at a tie with Walter. If Walter and Conners are still tied after a recount, the open seat will be decided by a canvas board consisting of a board member, a constituent and an election judge who conduct a lot drawing to determine, according to District Manager Katie Nicholls.

Voters from the district also struck down proposition to eliminate term limits for board members by a count of 60-47.

East Grand School District board of education

Christian Hornbaker was appointed by the East Grand school board to fill a seat in district three vacated by Ed Reagner who was elected as a Grand County commisioner in November. Raegner stepped down from the board of education in March. Hornbaker intially tied Karissa Gagnon, and a second vote was taken to break the tie, according to Amanda Cross, officer manager for the board.
