HSS water problem fixed

As of 8 a.m. March 15 Hot Sulphur Springs officials have notified residents and businesses affected from the boil order that the problem has been fixed.

“Fourteen houses received notices,” said Robert McVay, Mayor of Hot Sulphur Springs

“We followed procedures as a precautionary measure. The tests came back Monday at 8 p.m. Everything was lifted this morning.”

The state of Colorado created the notice template, said Town Clerk Sandy White.

However, the notice that was placed on doors didn’t state that the drinking water warning was only for that resident. The notice stated to “share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses).”

“If this affected the entire town we would have reversed 911,” McVay said. The Grand County Sheriff’s Office would have sent this warning.

On Monday, March 14 a drinking water warning in the town of Hot Sulphur Springs was sent to a local business on US Highway 40. According to the printed noticed there was a line break on March 13, which resulted in “significant loss of pressure in the drinking water system” and to boil your water before using.

The water line break occurred on Aspen St. between Moffat and US Highway 40 in Hot Sulphur Springs. Bacteria tests were performed at 8 a.m. on March 14.

According to Sally DiSciullo, Hot Sulphur Springs Town Trustee, only the people who got the notice on their doors or business were affected.

The notice states to “boil all water for three minutes and let it cool before using, or use bottled water.”

“Water main breaks resulting in a loss of system pressure can introduce disease-causing organisms into the water system. These organisms include bacteria, viruses, and parasites, which can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and associated headaches.”
