International Sports Club helps Grand County youth participate

To the Editor:

Founded in 1981, the International Sports Club’s (ISC) mission is to provide the youth of Grand County with opportunities to promote, support and sponsor their education, athletic, and social experiences.

The Club meets every third Thursday of the month. At each meeting the ISC reviews applications for grants.

In September, the ISC granted $675 to a Grand County youth for gymnastics lessons. In October, $1,400 was awarded for two Grand County girls to participate in a gymnastics program.

This past summer the Club was honored to support the Middle Park High School science camp (known as REEF) on a trip to Seward, Alaska, to visit the Alaska SeaLife Center. The students raised $5,309 toward their trip expenses, $2,000 of which was a grant from the ISC.

In addition to grants awarded throughout the year, the ISC gives $2,000 scholarships each year to students graduating from Grand County high schools.

In order to raise funds to accomplish their mission, the ISC holds various fundraising events throughout the year. So far this year, the ISC has held a Golf Tournament (raising over $10,000) and a 3-day yard sale (raising over $3,000).

On Nov. 29, the ISC will be having a major fundraising GALA at Caroline’s Restaurant. Elegant dress is optional for attending this dinner dance. A silent auction will precede dinner, with a live auction of generously donated items, as well as beautiful Christmas decorations following dinner.

If you are interested in learning more about any of the above, please feel free to call me on my cell phone at (703) 307-0610 (Verizon).
