Investigation ongoing in suspected embezzlement case by former Hot Sulphur Springs town employee

An investigation into suspected embezzlement by a former Hot Sulphur Springs employee remains ongoing after more than a year, according to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office initiated an investigation following a meeting Oct. 11, 2023, with Mayor Ray Tinkum and other representatives from the town. Investigators requested assistance from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation High Tech Crime Unit, according to the original news release.

“The sheriff recognizes that this has been a long investigation,” agency spokesperson Erin Opsahl said when asked for an update on the case. “However these complex financial investigations take a significant amount of time.”
