According to Prevention magazine, Volunteering doesn’t just improve your mood, it also boosts brainpower and strengthens your body. Well, Janene Johnson, Managing Broker of Century 21 Winter Park & Grand Lake offices, must be one smart cookie. She has been named the 2007 Realtor of the Year by the members of the Grand County Board of Realtors recently.Selected from a strong field of nominees, who are proud to serve their community and Realtor associations by volunteering their time, Janene’s philosophy of public service is One Person Can Make a Difference. As a busy business leader, committed mother and wife, she makes time to volunteer.I do love to volunteer for causes near and dear to my heart. I am dedicated to the Grand Foundation because they do so much for so many, explained Janene. I was the Grand Foundation Martini Bar bartender at the Grand Gala a year or so ago and it was a blast.I am very proud of the community winter coat drive that I organized. That is one of the times I realized that one person can really make a difference. It does not have to be rocket science nor hard to do, Johnson said. Now, the Grand County Board of Realtors clothing, food and back-to-school drives for our Mountain Family Center are annual and fully supported by our real estate community. She is one of the charter members of the new Winter Park/Fraser Rotary Club which meets weekly and plans many civic projects. She is a volunteer with the Special Olympics at SolVisa Ski Basin every year. Using her extensive business knowledge, Janene has served on the Board of Education District Accountability committee and the high school parent advisory group.I absolutely love helping each year with the regional meet of Knowledge Bowl participants at our high school. It is so great to see these extremely bright students have fun in the competition. My favorite is to be Emcee and read the questions and help decide if they answered correctly, Johnson said.Janene Johnson is also a volunteer within her real estate profession serving on the Grand County Board of Realtors and the Colorado Association of Realtors committees and Boards. I do these things because I love our community and truly believe even small gestures and contributions add up to make a big difference, she concluded. Because research shows volunteering keeps people mentally active. It also helps keep volunteers hearts healthy and their memory sharp. Find something for which you have a passion and volunteer. Just as 2007 Realtor of the Year, Janene Johnson, you will feel younger and could live longer.
