Janet Day – Easy Clean, Easy Go

Janet Day/Talk of the Valley
Grand County CO Colorado

Clean and Easy: One of the few things I still miss about living in Midtown Manhattan is the dry cleaning service. Laundries come to your door, pick up your cleaning, take it back to the store, clean it and then deliver the clean clothes back to your door, usually on the same day or overnight.

I don’t wear many delicate fabrics or business suits anymore, but some wool and other winter gear requires a dry cleaners’ touch, so I was happy to hear about the new Grand County Dry Cleaning Service that offers door-to-door pickup and delivery. Prices are reasonable considering the only alternative is to take cleaning with you when you go to Denver and pick it up whenever you’re back in the metro area. Law enforcement officers, fire fighters and EMTs get a discount from Grand County Cleaning Service. For details, call 970.887.2445.

Happy Hour; Happy River: The fight to save the Fraser River from more diversions continues tonight at the Crooked Creek Saloon from 5 until 8 p.m. The restaurant and Colorado River Headwaters Chapter of Trout Unlimited are sponsoring the event with live music, discounted entrees and happy hour specials along with educational handouts and informational speakers.

Pass the Pasta: The secret’s out. The culinary minds behind the popular Tabernash Tavern will be opening a Northern Italian-influenced restaurant in the Copper Creek Square space that most recently was home to the Green Olive. Chef Alberto Sapien will be creating many options from the Piedmont region – hearty food, with meat-based dishes, pasta and thin-crust pizza. No word on the name yet, but they’ll decide soon. The move means the Tabernash Tavern in the Iron Horse Resort will be closing.

Start the Holiday Parties: The East Grand Educational Foundation’s Holiday Gala will be held Saturday at C Lazy U Guest Ranch and tickets are still available to the event that provides alternative funding for educational opportunities for students in the district. For details or to make reservations, contact Maura@grandfoundation.com.

Circle H Retreat celebrates its second season opening of the popular “Audio Visual Enlightenment” (AVE) nights on Thursday. “Tight Like That” with Brad Pregeant, Lynnea Godfriaux and Patrick Brower will provide the music while Godfriaux will be showing her pastels, water colors and oil paintings. Doors open at 4 p.m. and the music starts at 6:30 p.m. There will be drawings for gift items and discounted sales of April Hilton’s glass work. For details or tickets ($5 cover charge) contact Circle H at glass@rkymtnhi.com.

Rejuvenate, Relax: Mountain Moon Yoga’s winter schedule starts Dec. 1 with new events, teachers and classes, including one that would probably be good for me – De-stress and Renew Yoga. It suggests taking “time out of your busy life to relax and rejuvenate. Learn techniques to restore your body and mind to physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.” There’s also a Pre-School Ballet/Creative Movement class for the little ones. It’s an early childhood program specifically designed for girls and boys ages 3 through 5 that introduces ballet, body awareness, and rhythmic coordination. For details about those and other classes, go to http://www.mtmoonyoga.com
