Jekyll and Hyde promises to thrill Grand Lake audiences

Grand Lake CO Colorado

GRAND LAKE – After years of producing its share of delightful Broadway classics, “deliciously wicked” is not usually the phrase that comes to mind when describing a production at Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre (RMRT). All that will change when RMRT unveils Jekyll and Hyde this Friday at their new theatre complex on Grand Ave. Based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s timeless novel, this musical follows the brilliant but obsessive scientist whose sadistic alter ego wreaks havoc across Victorian London in a dark tale of love, redemption and the seductive power of evil.

Audiences will be swept away by this chilling story of a doctor who, in the midst of finding a cure for his father’s mental illness, unwittingly unleashes his own inner dark side. As Dr. Jekyll continues his dangerous experiment with human nature, the struggle with his alter ego blurs the lines of his own sanity. Show-stopping pop anthems highlight this riveting battle of good versus evil that has thrilled audiences for the last 15 years. After its initial Broadway run, Jekyll and Hyde has developed a fiercely loyal fanbase that follows the production across the globe, and boasts Broadway hits like “This is the Moment” and “Someone Like You.” With RMRT’s newly installed, state-of-the-art light and sound system, Jekyll and Hyde will prove to be a pure adrenaline rush.

“This production is truly an edge-of-your-seat experience,” says newcomer Kyle Downing, who plays both the title roles.

“Working on a show like this, with such intriguing roles and musical styles, is an opportunity like no other. Both the production team and the acting company are doing amazing things with this show.”

Audiences are in for quite a ride, Downing said.

Jekyll and Hyde premieres at 8 p.m. Friday, June 22 and runs until August 23. Opening night ticket holders will be treated with a party following the show at the Gateway Inn.

Tickets are on sale now for the rest of the season, and can be purchased in person at the new Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre, by phone 970-627-3421 or online.
