John Kramer: Some things to do to reverse the effects

To the Editor:

The signature campaign promise for all of the Republican candidates for president appears to be the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. My question to their supporters is: “Why wait?” Here are some things you can do right away to reverse its effect:

• Kick your kids off of your insurance policy immediately rather than waiting until they are 26, even if they are unemployed or still in college.

• If your uninsured neighbor falls off his motorcycle, pay for his care directly instead of having the additional $1,000 added to your bill the next time you are hospitalized.

• If you have a pre-existing condition like diabetes, don’t bother to apply for insurance. Just try putting an aspirin between your knees.

• Senior citizens on traditional Medicare should send an additional $38 per month to the Medicare Advantage insurance companies to cover their 13 percent overhead. You wouldn’t want the executives to be deprived of their bonuses or the shareholders deprived of their dividends.

• And finally, forgo the annual physical exam that insurance companies are required to provide. Just ask your friendly TSA agent to give you one the next time you go through security at DIA.
