Join Grand County’s relay for Life on Saturday
July 31, 2008
To the Editor:
The 2nd Annual Grand County Relay For Life will be held at the Middle Park High School track, starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, and continuing throughout the night until 7 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, because “cancer never sleeps.”
Relay for Life is a time and place for us to come together as a community to celebrate those who have survived cancer, remember those we have lost, and fight back against a disease that has affected so many of our lives.
Relay organizers are working with the Grand County Rural Health Network, Heart of the Mountains Hospice, and local survivors’ groups to prioritize our community’s most urgent needs, but individuals can access financial assistance with transportation or lodging during treatment, wigs, and/or any other cancer treatment information or support, by directly contacting Judy Simpson, Quality of Life Manager, at 970-356-9727.
With 90 percent of the funds raised to be used locally to support Grand County cancer victims, survivors, and their caregivers/families, we hope community members will join us for as little or as much time as they have to give during this 13 hour event. There will be ongoing entertainment, including local bands “One Time” and “Claddagh,” activities and movies for the kids, and plenty of free food and drink donated by Sam’s Club and the Winter Park Pub.
Volunteer hours are available to MPHS students, and vendors are welcome … especially those who wish to participate by contributing a small percentage of their sales.
Set up a tent/camper and spend the night, walk/run a lap or two, and/or join us at sunset to light a luminaria to honor or remember a loved one.
Tax-deductible donations may be made to: American Cancer Society, Grand County Relay, c/o Sybil Miller, PO Box 675, Winter Park CO 80482. For credit card donations or more info, e-mail: email@example.com or call me at (970) 531-3224.
