The ninth annual Grand Lake Citizen of the Year Awards Dinner was held on Friday, Oct. 21, at the Western Riviera Lakeside Event Center on Grand Lake.

This year’s recipient is Judy Jensen, owner/operator of Cabins Quilts and Stitches and President of the Rocky Mountain Repertory Theater Board of Trustees.

Guest speakers at the event were Grand Lake Mayor Judy Burke, Vice President of Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre Susan Brandt, and Carol Wolff, the theater’s executive director. Appearing in a special video presentation were Michael Querio and Jeff Duke, artistic directors, and former managing director Chad Scott of the Repertory Theatre.

The event is sponsored by the Grand Lake Rotary Club and seeks to honor exceptional citizens whose service to the community enhances the quality of life and sense of civic pride in Grand Lake.

Four separate individuals nominated Jensen for the award, citing numerous accomplishments over the past five years relating to Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre and its impact on the Town of Grand Lake. Foremost in those accomplishments was the grand opening of the new theater in June 2011 after a successful capital campaign that raised over $5 million dollars during difficult economic times.

Guest speakers applauded Jensen for her vision, dedication, and leadership during this lengthy and difficult process of raising capital, overseeing the process of design and construction, and for a successful first season. It was noted that the theater would not have been built without her determination and drive, and that the quality of life and the economy in Grand Lake have been enhanced in a large part due to her efforts.

The Citizen of the Year is selected annually by a committee of previous winners under the coordination and sponsorship of the Grand Lake Rotary Club.
