Katie Soles – Support for National Safety Awareness Week appreciated

To the Editor:National Safety Awareness Week was Jan. 16-22. Winter Park Mountain Hosts, Ski Patrolers and other staff had direct contact with more than 950 skiers and riders, teaching them the Your Responsibility Code. These guests in turn were entered into a drawing for a WP 2010-11 Season Pass, a Coors Snowboard, helmets, ski poles and Red Feather poles, donated by the WP Tour Center. All of this was made possible with sponsorship from Centura Health/Seven Mile Clinic and Winter Park Resort.Local students, grades 3-5, created posters depicting elements of the “Your Responsibility Code.” These delightful, informative posters were displayed throughout the week in the Balcony House, at Winter Park. This is a fun and effective way to get the skier/rider safety message across to our local students and anyone who spent time looking at this display. Thank you to all the students who created posters. Our contest winners for 2010 are Rachel Simshauser, Hannah Heil, Dawson May, Delayne Nieberger, Kaitlyn McConnell and Maddie VanBemmelen.Winners were awarded gifts from West Portal Outfitters and Alco, and will spend a day on the mountain with the Winter Park Ski Patrol on February 19th.A sincere thank you to all of our sponsors: Centura Health/Seven Mile Clinic, Coors Brewing Co, Alco and Winter Park Resort including Uniform Services, Marketing, West Portal Outfitters and Winter Park Tour Center. We appreciate all of their support in spreading the safety message.Katie Soles & Winter Park Resort’s Ski Education Team
