Kline to run for State House District 13
Tad Kline, a Colorado native who resides in Boulder, has announced his candidacy for state representative of Colorado House District 13. Kline will be running as a Democrat to replace current House District 13 Rep. Claire Levy (D-Boulder), who is term-limited and cannot seek re-election in the 2014 election.
Kline, who has lived in House District 13 for longer than 25 years, has worked as Levy’s campaign manager and legislative aid in the past, and has also been a Boulder city council member, according to an Aug. 25 press release announcing his candidacy.
“This is a wonderful place,” Kline says in statements. “But we face huge challenges in education, health care, community welfare and our environment. I know the district, the people and the job. I’m excited about the hard work we need to do to shape a better future for Colorado.”
In an interview with the Sky-Hi News, Kline discussed the challenges of representing the diverse district, saying he would work to make sure the interests of people on the West Slope would be heard.
In addition to Kline’s work with Rep. Levy, he has also held positions as a railroad brakeman, journalist, defense attorney, education consultant, and most recently, an I-70 corridor transportation demand project manager.
Kline has accepted Colorado’s Voluntary Spending Limits for his campaign, though he still reserves the right to withdraw his acceptance of the spending limits if other candidates do not accept spending limits.
“I believe unlimited campaign spending erodes our democracy,” Kline said in the press release. “And I will walk my talk.”
Kline will hold a campaign kick-off party on Thursday, Sept. 12, in south Boulder.
