Kremmling: New PK-8 school building ready to go
Sky-Hi Daily News
The official opening ceremony for the new West Grand PK-8 school building takes place at 7 p.m. tonight.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be in the new building’s gymnasium. Following the ceremony, refreshments will be served and guided tours of the building will be conducted.
“We certainly hope the community will attend the ceremony,” said Superintendent Jeff Perry. “We have a wonderful new building that will be serving our students and community for years to come. I encourage everyone to come out and celebrate the opening of our new building.”
The 73,000-square-foot building will be the new home for the West Grand School District’s elementary and middle school students. Starting next fall, the local area’s preschoolers will be moving into two classrooms in the building’s west wing.
The new West Grand PK-8 school building was built with funding from a $10.5 million bond approved by district voters in November 2006. Ground-breaking took place last April with the architectural design and construction done by the Neenan Company of Fort Collins.
“With the opening of this new building, we can now focus on teaching and instruction rather than on our facility needs,” Perry said. “This school district is extremely appreciative of the support the community showed by supporting our bond issue, and we believe we have used those funds judiciously. We’ve created a building that we all can be proud of that will meet the needs of our community for years to come.”
First school day Monday
Elementary and middle school students will be receiving an orientation of the building Thursday. Their first full day in their new school building will be Monday, Jan. 14.
Student drop-off and pick-up at the new PK-8 building will take place in designated areas. Perry explained the purpose of this is to minimize traffic congestion and improve safety by keeping school buses and other vehicles separate.
All school buses will be dropping off and picking up students on the east side of the new building. They will be entering and exiting on Ninth Street where the Kremmling Preschool building is located.
Parents or guardians driving students to school must use the elementary and middle school entrances on the west side of the PK-8 building. Cars arriving to drop off or pick up students should use Seventh Street.
Those parents planning to accompany their students into the building should use the large parking lot on the south side of the PK-8. The main entrance is located on the south side of the building, opposite the main parking lot.
The morning start time for both elementary and middle school students is 7:55 a.m., late bell is 8 a.m. The daily dismissal time for elementary students is at 3:54 p.m. with the middle schoolers being released at 3:57 p.m.
For more information, call West Grand Elementary at 724-3656, West Grand Middle School at 724-3489 or the front desk at the new PK-8 building at 724-1000.
