Kremmling selects Jamie Lucas as next police chief

Grand County’s western most community will soon have a new Chief of Police once South Carolina native and career law enforcement officer Jamie Lucas starts his new position as head of the Kremmling Police Department.

Lucas was selected as the next Kremmling Police Chief by the town’s board of trustees in late June after a multi-month search following the announced retirement of the town’s former head of law enforcement Scott Spade. Lucas said he will be making the move to Colorado’s high country in late July and expects to start his new role shortly thereafter.

The 46-year-old family man comes to Grand County with an extensive career in the field of criminal justice and has done stints as a law enforcement officer as well as a county magistrate.

Lucas will replace longtime Kremmling Police Chief Scott Spade who spent over two decades with the department and was named chief in 2004. Spade announced his retirement in early March with plans to move to the state of Washington. Lucas will oversee a department of four men that includes three peace officers and him.
