Kremmling Superintendent candidates to visit West Grand for interviews, introductions
March 15, 2009
Before the end of this school year, West Grand Schools will have a new superintendent. A final decision will be announced by April. Two weeks ago special committees narrowed down the candidate pool for the school districts superintendent search. After going over the qualifications of a total of 16 who applied, members of the West Grand Board of Education chose eight interested candidates for further study.Board members then went through their biographies and backgrounds at a special meeting last week to come up with their top three. Calls are being made to let them know they have been selected for final interviews.Theyll also be invited to come meet the community. They need to buy us as much as we need to buy them, said Paul Reese, interim superintendent who stepped in after Jeff Perry resigned last October. Those chosen to meet with the board and Kremmling residents are: Kevin Chalfant of Colorado Springs, current principal in the Teyton School District; Cheryl Gomez, K-8 principal at the Pueblo School of Arts & Sciences; and Gerald Gabbard of Trinidad, superintendent at the Primero School District in Weston.Several questions will be asked of them during board interviews March 27, including how the prospective superintendents would handle various issues in the district (issues like limited resources, declining enrollment, and high-stakes testing). Those interested may have their chance to meet the candidates during a Meet Your Superintendent Candidates Night 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. March 27 in the Cathy Shipley Community Room. The meeting will give an opportunity for staff and community members to interact and ask questions of the candidates.
