Lady Panthers take second at Winter Park Resort slalom race

Alpine ski racers from Middle Park High took to the slopes of Winter Park Resort last week for a slalom race that saw the girls squad take home a second place team finish.

Last Thursday’s race was the second to last high school ski race event before the state championships are held later this month. The lady Panthers took home a second place team finish and received a big boost from the teams top racers, freshmen Bethanne Droll and Ella Wiser, who both secured a podium finish last week.

Leading the way was Droll who finished in second place a time of 1:52.14. One place behind her and less than a second back was Wiser who finished with a 1:52.40 race time. Further back was fellow freshman Mia Rimmer who finished 36th on Thursday with a race time of 2:24.59. Not far behind was Mary Mintken who wrapped up the race in 2:27.66 on her way to a 39th place finish. Wrapping up the efforts from the lady Panthers was Emily Lantermans who finished in 48th place with a time of 2:38.07.

Over on the boy’s side of things the Panther men took home a fifth place team finish for the Winter Park Resort race. Junior Brenden Droll once again led the Panther boy’s pack with a sixth place individual finish after completing his two races in 1:39.42. A bit further back was freshman Cole Wettersten who finished in 22th place Thursday with a time of 1:58.25. Nipping at his heels was junior Mason Moorhusen who finished 26th at the Winter Park race with a time of 2:03.52.

Freshman Jacob Dorn was the next fastest Panther racer. Dorn finished in 30th place with a time of 2:06.84. Behind him was freshman Cody Docheff who wrapped up the race in 44th place with a time of 2:44.86. Rounding out the list of Panthers who place last week was Sam Parker who finished in 47th place after posting a race time of 6:52.93. Junior Marcus Anker also raced for Middle Park last week though he did not finish his first heat and received no formal place.

Alpine ski racers from Middle Park will now prepare for their final race event of the regular season, scheduled for this Friday at Loveland Ski Area. Following this Friday’s event the Panthers will begin formal preparations for the state championships, to be held next Thursday and Friday at Ski Cooper just outside of Leadville.
