Larimer County sheriff announces resolution of 2 cold cases

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) – Larimer County authorities have announced the resolution of two murder cases from 1982 and the arrest of one suspect.

Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden said Monday that 46-year-old David Hehn of Fort Collins was arrested Monday on the charge of first-degree murder and kidnapping in the 1982 murder of a local 17-year-old girl.

Gay Lyn Dixon’s body was found west of Fort Collins. She had been beaten and shot three times in the head.

Alderden wouldn’t say what evidence led to Hehn’s arrest.

The sheriff says DNA evidence helped clear the 1982 stabbing death of 94-year-old Orma B. Smith of Longmont. Suspect John Agrue died in Illinois last year.
