Despite strong winds on Monday, the Silver Creek Fire has seen another increase in containment and did not grow or experience an increase in activity.

Currently, the fire is 4,772 acres and 50 percent contained. Minimal fire activity continues on the interior, but recent rains helped to wet fuels and stop the spread of the flames.

Pre-evacuation orders for Latigo Ranch and Old Park were lifted Tuesday, further adding to the confidence of crews on the scene. Red Dirt Road/County Road 19 is still closed to all public traffic. Hunting season did begin Saturday, but the fire is still active in this area and people are not allowed in.

Crews remain focused on strengthening firelines where terrain allows and restoring areas on the perimeter, which includes removing hazardous trees, installing water bars and chipping excess debris.

Heavy equipment is being utilized to construct indirect firelines west of Old Park and along Forest Service Roads.

Officials expect lighter winds and cooler temperatures in the fire area on Tuesday, with the chance of rain or thunderstorms. With these weather conditions, officials predict little fire activity in the next 24 hours.

On Monday, the fire was downgraded to a type three incident command team from a type two incident command team, which represents a decrease in the complexity and overall activity. Only 132 personnel remain assigned to the fire, which has dropped significantly from over 600 last week.
