Leslie Dines: Relay for Life Daffodil Days a great success

To the Editor:

Daffodil Days, a fundraiser held at the Rec Center for Relay For Life of Grand County was a great success. Thank you to Scott Ledin and everyone at the Rec Center for giving us a venue to hold our event.

Thank you also to all of the wonderful people who bought a bouquet of Daffodils to help us welcome Spring and jump-start our fundraising efforts. We raised $500 for Relay For Life, the American Cancer Society’s largest nonprofit fundraiser.

The money received continues to fund cancer research, state and national legislative advocacy, and the Society’s many educational and community service programs like Road to Recovery, Look Good Feel Better, gas cards, hotel vouchers and gift certificates to local businesses to help out in times of need.

Relay For Life of Grand County will be held this summer on Aug. 7-8 in Granby at the high school football field. It is an event for all walks of life and fitness levels. Teams consisting of up to 12 people take turns walking around the track throughout the night. There is live music, food, activities for spectators, walkers and survivors, theme laps and community spirit.

Thank you to all of the generous businesses in our community who support not only our efforts in the fight against cancer, but many different causes, large and small, that directly effect the wonderful people of Grand County. In an economy that has made it more difficult to thrive I am heartened by the selfless giving of a community to help those in need.
