Let’s not cut Christmas trees in beetle-kill areas
To the Editor:
I would guess that 75 percent of Arapaho National Forest up County Road 84 is dead. I was so dismayed on a recent weekend to watch the steady stream of traffic coming down this road with trees strapped on top of their vehicles. The few remaining healthy pine trees and the even fewer blue spruce were being taken out in droves destined for a short life in someone’s living room and then off to fill up our landfill.
Now we can look at pine beetle dead and stumps. Shame on the Forest Service for issuing Christmas tree permits in this devastated area.
