Letter: Cooking the books in Grand County

To the Editor:

Accountability:

If I fail to pay my yearly property tax, I jeopardize losing my home.

If I fail to file my taxes, I face the wrath of the IRS.

If I fail to keep track of my own finances, I risk losing everything.

If I fail to show up for work, I could lose my job.

Accountability is everywhere in our daily existence… Except, apparently, in Grand County management.

I am perplexed and extremely disappointed to read that prolonged malfeasance has corrupted the Grand County Building Department.

If the reported theft of funds has been ongoing for years, and I want to repeat that word “years,” where’s the culpability?

What’s most disturbing is that those in power are so eager to point the finger at someone else it only seems fair that Grand County management take a close look in the mirror and decide whether their actions require further scrutiny.

If Grand County management were as concerned with doing their job as with keeping their job, maybe this mess would never have occurred.

If the Chef of the kitchen cannot manage the multitude of pots that nourish the engines of economy and life in Grand county, perhaps it’s time for change.

Is it any wonder that the fuel for function had soured the tastes of those who contribute the most.
